Archaeology education at Hacettepe University has been conducted under the Department of Archaeology and History of Art since 1982, within the Division of Archaeology, offering Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral programs. In 1989, the Division of Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology was established within the Department of Archaeology and History of Art, launching an independent undergraduate program.
Our department was officially founded in 1997, and three divisions were established: Prehistory, Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. During this period, undergraduate education continued only within the Division of Protohistory and Near Eastern Archaeology.
In 2001, after the abolition of divisions within Archaeology departments across Turkey, a joint undergraduate program was introduced, which is still in effect today. Since 2010, the entrance score type for our department has been determined as TM-3 by the Council of Higher Education (YÖK).
